Unter dem Label spiritual ground laden die Kuratorinnen Nadia Ismail und Astrid Legge am 17. März 2017 zu einem performativen Event-Abend im ehemaligen Winterrefektorium der Abtei Brauweiler ein, der die künstlerischen Genres Performance, Musik, Tanz und Theater miteinander verbindet.

Zu Gast sind das aus Offenbach am Main stammende Künstler-Kollektiv Baby of Control, die österreichische Künstlerin Evamaria Schaller und die aus Kroatien stammende Künstlerin Nora Turato.

Baby of Control feiert mit seinen performativen Gesangsauftritten, außergewöhnlichen Kostümen sowie der filmischen Zusammenarbeit mit Rosa von Praunheim 2014 („Praunheim Memories“) bereits seit einigen Jahren Erfolge. Ihre aktionsgeladenen Darbietungen gleichen Happenings, die unterschiedlichste musikalische Stilrichtungen – Trance, Rhythm & Blues, Schlager, Hip Hop, Pop, Punk – mit performativen Handlungen und dem Einsatz fetischisierter Kostüme und Objekte zu einem Gesamtkunstwerk verschmelzen. Die Gruppe, deren Mitglieder je nach Auftritt variieren, wird eigens für spiritual ground eine musikalische Performance entwickeln.

Die international agierende Künstlerin Evamaria Schaller (*1980 Graz) bewegt sich mit ihren Arbeiten zwischen Performance-, Videokunst und Installation. Sie setzt sich stets mit dem sozialen Umfeld auseinander und nutzt ihren Körper dabei als Messinstrument. In ihren Liveperformances reagiert sie mit einfachen Handlungen und Körpereinsatz ganz unmittelbar auf den umgebenden Raum, der für sie menschliches Handeln und zwischenmenschliche Beziehungen konserviert und widerspiegelt.

Mit dem Overkill an Informationen befasst sich die aus Kroatien stammende und in Amsterdam lebende Künstlerin Nora Turato (*1991 Zagreb). Ihre als „verbal vomit“ bezeichneten Sprachperformances gleichen einem ohne Punkt und Komma hinaus geschleuderten Bewusstseinsstrom, der auf präzisen Beobachtungen des Alltags basiert und das Publikum mit einer Bandbreite gegenwärtiger Themen und ihrer medialen Darstellung konfrontiert. Über das künstlerisch gestaltete Sprechen eines Textes, über Rhythmus und Melodie der Sprache, betont Nora Turato die Dringlichkeit ihrer soziokulturellen Themen, indem sie diese druckvoll und provokativ auf den Punkt bringt.

Moderiert wird der Abend von dem künstlerischen Leiter des Neuen Aachener Kunstvereins Ben Kaufmann.

Im Anschluss legen beim ‘Flying Dinner’ die DJs Lydia Schmidt und Y Nuage des Labels unbreakmyheart im ehemaligen Winterrefektorium Musik aus den 80s, Synth Wave, French, Soviet Grooves und Lovesongs auf.

Das Künstlerkollektiv Baby of Control entstand 2009 in Offenbach am Main. Seit dieser Zeit tritt das Ensemble aus wechselnden KünsterInnen in unterschiedlichen Formationen in Deutschland auf.

Evamaria Schaller, geboren 1980 in Graz, Österreich. Lebt und arbeitet in Köln. Sie studierte MultiMediaArt in Salzburg, Film an der FAMU in Prag und absolvierte 2011 ihr Postgradualstudium an der Kunsthochschule für Medien in Köln im Bereich Film- und Performancekunst. Sie ist Gründungsmitglied des Performance Aktionslabors PAErsche in Köln, mit dem sie international agiert.
Sie erhielt verschiedene Preise (Chargesheimer Stipendium der Stadt Köln, Peter Mertes Stipendium Kunstverein Köln, STARTstipendium für Video- und Medienkunst Österreich), Residencies (Stiftung Künstlerdorf Schöppingen) und ist national und international mit Ausstellungen und Performances vertreten. Repräsentiert wird sie von der Galerie Martinetz, Köln.

Nora Turato wurde 1991 in Zagreb geboren, studierte an der Gerrit Rietveld Academie Amsterdam und am Werkplaats Typografie Arnheim. Nora Turato ist aktuell Stipendiatin der Rijksakademie Amsterdam. Anfang 2017 war sie mit einer Reihe von Performances in den Kunstwerken Berlin vertreten und zeigt nun mit Your Shipment Has Been Dispatched im NAK ihre erste institutionelle Einzelausstellung.

Under the label spiritual ground , the curators Nadia Ismail and Astrid Legge invite once again to a performative event evening on Friday, 17th March 2017 in the former winter refectory of the Abbey of Brauweiler, which combines the artistic genres of performance, music, dance and theatre.

Guests include the artist collective Baby of Control from Offenbach am Main, the Austrian artist Evamaria Schaller and the artist Nora Turato, originally from Croatia.

For several years now, Baby of Control celebrates successes with their vocal performances, extraordinary costumes and the cinematic collaboration with Rosa von Praunheim in 2014 (”Praunheim Memories“). Their action-packed performances resemble happenings which merge the most varied musical styles (Trance, Rhythm & Blues, Hip Hop, Pop, Punk) with performative actions and the use of fetishized costumes and objects into an overall work of art. The group, whose members vary depending on the performance, will develop a musical performance especially for spiritual ground.

The work of the internationally acting artist Evamaria Schaller (*1980 Graz) ranges between performance & video art and installation. She always deals with the social environment, using her body as a measuring instrument. In her live performances, she reacts with simple actions and using her body directly to the surrounding space, which, for her, preserves and reflects human actions and interpersonal relationships.

The artist Nora Turato (*1991 Zagreb) from Croatia, currently living in Amsterdam, deals with the overkill of information. Her speech performances, referred to as ”verbal vomit“, resemble a stream of consciousness that is thrown out without periods and commas, that is based on precise observations of everyday life and which confronts the audience with a range of current topics and their presentation in the media. Through the artistically arranged speaking of a text, the rhythm and the melody of the language, Nora Turato emphasizes the urgency of her socio-cultural themes, by bringing them in a punchy and provocative manner to the point.

The evening will be presented by the artistic director of the Neuer Aachener Kunstverein,Ben Kaufmann.

Afterwards, during the ‘Flying Dinner’ in the former winter refectory, the DJs Lydia Schmidt and Y Nuage of the label unbreakmyheart will put on music from the 80s, Synth Wave, French, Soviet Grooves and Love songs.

Evamaria Schaller was born 1980 in Graz, Austria. She lives and works in Cologne. After she studied MultiMediaArt in Salzburg as well as film and video at the FAMU in Prague, she completed her postgraduate studies at the Cologne Academy of Media Arts in film- and performatice art. Schaller is one of the founding members of the PAErsche “Aktionslabor” in Cologne, with operates internationally.

She received several prizes (Chargesheimer scholarship by the city of Cologne; Peter Mertes fellowship by the Kunstverein Köln; STARTscholarship for film- and media art Austria), residencies (Künstlerdorf Schöppingen Foundation) and took part in numerous national and international exhibitions and performances. Evamaria Schaller is represented by the Gallery Martinetz in Cologne.

Nora Turato was born 1991 in Zagreb, studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie Amsterdam and at Werkplaats Typografie Arnheim. Currently Nora Turato is resident at the Rijksakademie Amsterdam.
